The Charleston Bombers ruined the Kentucky Coyotes home opener with a 121-116 win but it took a thrilling overtime to do so.
The Bombers, a veteran NABL team headed by 24 year coach Dave Spurlock, led through three quarters at the Kentucky Basketball Academy court.
In the fourth quarter, the Lexington based Coyotes were led by last year's NAIA Player of the year Collier Mills and his former Transylvania U. teammate Kyle Green. Despite Will Carlton and Charles Thomas fouling out, the Coyotes closed out regulation with a rush to finish with a 105-105 tie.
In overtime it was just too much experience and teamwork on behalf of the veterans from West Virginia. Still, the Coyotes came within a 3 point shot by Collier Mills that would have sent the game into a second overtime.
Collier Mills led the Coyotes in scoring with 27 point, while Elton Scott chipped in 24 points.
Ron Keenhan lead the Bombers with 27 points, and Dan Hicks added 24 with Greg Dennis putting in 23.
Kentucky is right back in action at home with a Sunday Night rematch against the Frankfort Cattle Barons at 7 pm at the KBA. Frankfort, who lost their home opener to the Coyotes 102-94 is sporting a new look with power forward Lance Barnes (6'8", 245, Adams St.) and West Virginia point guard Jarod West replacing Darrius Beard and Andy VanVoelkenburghn, who have signed pro contracts.
